Could you imagine having kids that would always offer you a gift after they disobeyed your instructions? Let’s say you came home and your back door was broken off the hinges, you ask your children what happen and they give your a hundred dollar bill to get it fixed.
It would seem they are being respectful, but what if you had told them not to touch the back door? They did anyway and when it broke they simply offered to pay for the repair.
How would you feel if this behavior occurred time and time again? You told them not to do something, they do it anyway and then offer you a gift to make it right. After a while the gift giving would get old, you would be more concerned with them doing the right thing, than giving a gift.
The other day a person told me when they hit it big there going to give the Lord a lot money. I told them that’s nice, but God is probably more concerned with doing what He says on a daily basis.
Gifts are nice and giving is powerful, God loves givers. But He would rather have us obey His word first and foremost above all things!
To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:3 (NIV)
“Lord, teach me how to follow Your instruction above all things. Amen.”
Ask God to teach you and you’ll always be able to say later, “God Taught Me!”
